Sick little man

I received a call on Friday about 2:30 to come get Jack from daycare. When I got there I was told that he had a fever of 101.5, which I thought was really unusual because he'd felt fine that morning, but now had dots on him. My first thought was that it's chicken pox and thought, great! I'd much rather him get chicken pox this young (although it's still dangerous at this age) than wait til he's a toddler or older. Turns out the two infant rooms have had a outbreak of Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease and Jack is its latest victim. Luckily for some of the babies who are out on spring break they might not get it. Our daycare is very good about sterilizing and cleaning everything but with something that is transmitted via saliva and drooling babies it just happens.

Here are some pictures Jay took today of little man. He's rocking diaper time so you get to see our growing boy.

You can see some of the blisters around his mouth in these pictures. He's got a few in his mouth and on his tongue. We were told to use liquid antacid , think Maalox, and administer 1/2 tsp and coat his gums as much as you can and that will help the mouth pain. I would never guess that antacid would work but it's the only thing that does and he'll eat after so we're using it a few times a day but being careful not to do it too often.

Since I'm in the middle of a testing cycle Jay will be staying home and taking care of Jack this week. We were told that it could only be 3 days or could last as long as 7 days. He's in decent spirits and not running a fever which is a good sign. He's needy and is napping much more than he normally does but your body repairs when it sleeps so sleep little man, sleep.

Jay is going to take some more pictures to better show the rash that's developing over him tomorrow.
